Self-sabotage almost always traces back to one of a handful of subconscious beliefs:
- ‘I don’t deserve to succeed’
- ‘If I succeed, something bad will happen’
- ‘Success means losing something I value — safety, relationships, identity’
- ‘I’m not really capable, and if I try I’ll be exposed’
- ‘I have to do it right’
- ‘Staying small keeps me safe’
These beliefs aren’t conscious — you’d never choose them. But they run silently in the background, shaping your choices, your timing, and your follow-through in ways you can’t always see.
