WHAT YOUR MIND DWELLS UPON, YOUR BODY ACTS UPON…

About Shalynn Flavell, CHt

Certified Hypnotherapist & Coach | Seattle, WA & Virtual Sessions Nationwide

I believe that no matter where a person is from, what language they speak, how they live, or what they've been through — we all share a common need. We are all, in our own way, trying to make sense of our experience and find our footing in the world. That belief has shaped everything about how I work.

I'm Shalynn Flavell — Certified Hypnotherapist, Coach, and the person behind Temple Hypnosis. For over 20 years I've been helping driven, thoughtful people get out of their own way — working at the subconscious level where lasting change actually happens.

Where This Journey Began

I was born and raised in Hong Kong — a city that opened my eyes early to the extraordinary diversity of human experience. Schooled in Hong Kong and England, living in a boarding house with 75 girls from all over the world, I developed a deep respect for people, a genuine curiosity about what makes us tick, and a natural ability to communicate honestly across difference.

From a young age I was drawn to what I think of as the human condition — the universal patterns beneath our wildly different surfaces. That curiosity eventually led me here.

But it was a more personal experience that truly set my path.

At age 21, I was diagnosed with blood cancer. The following year I underwent a Bone Marrow Transplant. It was during that time — facing something genuinely life-threatening — that I first encountered hypnotherapy. And what I found stopped me in my tracks.

Hypnotherapy gave me tools to make shifts in perspective and attitude that I have no doubt were instrumental in the successful outcome of my treatment. It helped me navigate every aspect of my illness — the fear, the physical pain, the identity questions that come with facing your own mortality. Those tools are still part of how I live today.

When you find something that changes your life that profoundly, sharing it stops feeling like a career choice. It becomes something closer to a calling.

The Approach

My work integrates hypnotherapy and coaching in every session — they aren't separate offerings but two sides of the same process. Hypnotherapy accesses the subconscious mind directly, reaching the beliefs, patterns, and emotional responses that drive behavior at its root. Coaching builds conscious awareness, tools, and structure to support and reinforce that deeper work.

Together they create what I call identity-level transformation — change that doesn't just address the symptom, but shifts who you are being at the deepest level. When the subconscious sense of self changes, the surface-level patterns tend to resolve naturally and permanently.

Every session is entirely client-centered. No scripts. No cookie-cutter approaches. No mold that you're expected to fit. I trust that honesty and openness between us will always guide us to the most beneficial path — and I bring that same openness to every person I work with.

I also bring a perspective that I think matters: issues and problems are, at their root, a matter of perspective. We all tend to lose sight of the power of choice — the power to choose how we perceive our experiences. Helping people find and reclaim that power is at the heart of everything I do.

A Global Perspective

Growing up between cultures gave me something I bring into every session — the deep understanding that there is no single right way to be human. Every person who sits across from me brings their own history, their own framework, their own way of making meaning.

That multicultural foundation means I work comfortably and effectively with people from all walks of life, all backgrounds, and all corners of the world — which is one of the reasons virtual sessions feel so natural to me. Geography has never limited who I can help.

A Note About Cricket 🐾

I'm frequently in the office with my French Bulldog, Cricket — my sweet, enthusiastic, self-appointed Director of First Impressions. Greeting you with love and enthusiasm is her most serious professional responsibility, and she takes it very seriously indeed.

Cricket and I are happiest when you are — so please don't hesitate to mention when booking if you'd prefer to have your session without her. No explanation needed, no hurt feelings (well, possibly Cricket's, but she recovers quickly).
